• Fingal Dublin Chamber offer condolences following death of former councillor and Mayor Mags Murray

Fingal Dublin Chamber has paid tribute to former Fingal County Councillor and Mayor Mags Murray who sadly passed away on Saturday, the 13th of June 2020.

Mags served as a Fingal County Councillor in the Castleknock Local Electoral Area from 2004 until last year’s Local Elections. She was elected Mayor in 2014 and one of her major initiatives was to hold a Mayor’s conference entitled “Immigration to Integration” during her 12-month term.

She was also a former chairperson of the Local Authority Members’ Association.

Fingal Dublin Chamber Chief Executive, Anthony Cooney said: "On behalf of the Chamber board and Council I would like to express our sympathies to the family and friends of Mags Murray.

A true champion of the Fingal and Castleknock area, with a commitment and passion for all she did, Mags will be missed."

Fingal County Council has opened a digital book of condolences following the death of the long-standing former Fianna Fáil public representative.

Mayor of Fingal Cllr Eoghan O’Brien has paid tribute to his former colleague. “I am greatly saddened to hear of the untimely passing of my former colleague and party member Mags Murray. She was an outstanding public representative who worked tirelessly on behalf of her constituents. Mags was a wonderful ambassador for the County during her term as Mayor. She made an enormous contribution during her time as an elected representative and she will be greatly missed.”

“When I first joined Fingal County Council in 2007, Mags was one of the first people to welcome me to the council. I had the pleasure of serving alongside her for 12 years after that. She was respected by colleagues from across the political spectrum.

“Mags had a deep love of her community and a great deal of respect for local government. She was a proud Corkonian and an accomplished sportsperson, holding All Ireland medals for Camogie and Gaelic football.”

“On behalf of myself, my fellow councillors, party members and Fingal County Council, I would like to express my sincere condolences to Mags’ family, relatives and friends at this difficult time.”

Chief Executive AnnMarie Farrelly said: “Mags was a deeply committed public representative who served her constituents in the Castleknock area with dedication and commitment during her time on Fingal County Council. She was unwavering in her dedication to serve the people she represented, and she made a significant and telling contribution to the lives of many.”

She is survived by her husband Gary, son Niall, daughters Aoife and Amy, grandson Alex, father Connie, brother Neilus, sisters Ita and Noreen, extended family and relatives and a wide circle of friends.
