Payroll - Manual & ComputerisedPitman Training Ireland is delighted to bring you this comprehensive Payroll training course, which provides a thorough introduction to Payroll Principles in the Manual Section and in the Computerised Section you create real life payroll scenarios using Sage Micropay software, in addition to learning about PAYE Modernisation.ABOUT THIS COURSEThe Manual section of the course is comprehensive and covers all of the key payroll areas you will need to learn in order to effectively process a business payroll. Areas you will study include employment contract legislation, such as working hours, overtime and the minimum wage and completing pay records.You’ll also review the purpose of Pay Related Social Insurance (PRSI) contributions and how to calculate them.In the Computerised section the lessons include ‘How to get started’ using Sage Micropay. You’ll look at how to set up company information and employee details, how to set up hourly rates and payments in order to process pay and produce associated reports in addition to gaining a thorough understanding of PAYE modernisation.The computerised section is highly practical and you will have the opportunity to carry out exercises to ensure you fully understand the processes involved.AIMS AND OBJECTIVESThis course aims to give you a sound understanding, to an employable level, of how to process payroll both manually and using Sage Micropay, a common office payroll system used by many businesses in Ireland.PRE-REQUISITES Before starting this course, students should have gained a working knowledge of Microsoft Word.COURSE CONTENTThere are eight modules within the Manual and Computerised Payroll course which cover the following:Module One - What payroll is, roles and responsibilities of payroll, identifying the employee information held by a business, the importance of data protection with regard to employee rights and what must be included in a written contract of employment. Also in in this module we cover legislation in respect of working hours and overtime, the national minimum wage, employment time records and calculating gross pay for an employee to include overtime rates and holiday pay.Module Two – Includes how to calculate an employee’s weekly net tax liability, completing pay records for employees on a cumulative tax basis, to include variable weekly gross pay, advance holiday pay, income tax and USC refunds and pension contributions.Module Three – Here you will learn the different methods of taxation, SRCOP, emergency tax and tax credits and the benefits of a pre-tax deduction.Module Four – In this module you gain an understanding of the purpose of Pay Related Social Insurance (PRSI) contributions, calculating PRSI, completing pay records including all statutory and voluntary deductions. Also included are different tax assessment methods, calculating annual tax liability and awareness of the effect of budgetary changes on take home pay.Module Four – In this module you gain an understanding of the purpose of Pay Related Social Insurance (PRSI) contributions, calculating PRSI, completing pay records including all statutory and voluntary deductions. Also included are different tax assessment methods, calculating annual tax liability and awareness of the effect of budgetary changes on take home pay.Module Five – This module includes protecting confidential data, advantages and disadvantages of a computerised payroll system, starting the Sage Micropay program, logging in to a payroll, setting up basic company details and accessing Micropay Help. You will also learn about setting hourly rates and payments, viewing employee details, creating employee records, navigating employee records and backing up data.Module Six – Included in this module are restoring payroll data, editing employee details, setting a pay calendar for the tax year, producing a variety of payroll reports, requesting an RPN from the Revenue and backing up payroll data. You then learn how to send a payroll submission to the Revenue and viewing year to date details in the employee records.Module Seven – This module covers how to process a New Starter (with and without a PPS number), process advanced holiday pay, setting up payments and deductions, transferring an employee from Week 1 Basis to cumulative and using the batch time and pay method to enter pay details.Module Eight – The final module includes processing pay when a revised RPN is received from the Revenue, processing a leaver, producing a P30/CC24 report and processing pension contributions.CAREER PATHOnce you have gained this payroll experience you could work towards roles such as a Finance Assistant or Accounts Assistant. Further finance training could lead you to an Accountant role.
